Welcome to the FPRC-ORPFC Pre-screening Tool
Forest Professional Regulators of Canada (FPRC) is comprised of the provincial forestry regulators. One of the duties of the FPRC is to administer a credential assessment process (CAP). Individuals who have graduated from non-accredited forestry or allied science post-secondary program can have their academic qualifications, professional experience, and other relevant credentials reviewed against a set of professional standards in consideration of eligibility for registration as a regulated professional. Individuals who have graduated from an accredited program are not required to participate in this process. Accredited post-secondary forestry programs can be found
here.
The image below shows which activities are part of the process.
The practice of professional forestry is regulated by law in eight provinces in Canada. Individuals who wish to become licensed as a forest professional are required to register with the provincial forestry regulatory organization where they plan to practice. In order to apply for registration as a Registered Professional Forester (RPF) or a Registered Professional Forest Technologist (RPFT or RFT) in Canada, applicants must demonstrate they meet FPRC’s national professional standards.
This free pre-screening tool provides regulators and applicants an initial overview of their credentials to assess their alignment with the relevant professional standards. Results are only an approximate evaluation of academic education and relevant forestry work experience to help applicants decide whether or not pursue the Credential Assessment Process (CAP) for a complete assessment under the relevant professional standards. The full CAP assessment provides an estimation of the amount of additional training (or gap filling) applicants might need to complete to become registered as a forest professional in Canada.
To become registered as a forest management professional in Canada, applicants will need to participate in a formal CAP evaluation to determine specific competency gaps.
This pre-screening portal allows applicants to create a secure personal account where you can update and save your information before submitting it to a provincial regulator for review. The pre-screening tool will take 30-45 minutes to complete. If you cannot complete the form in one sitting, you can access the assessment at a later time by clicking on the access link you will be provided via email.
IMPORTANT: The pre-screening results are not the official evaluation of credentials for Canadian professional forestry registration. Pre-screening results are not binding to the FPRC or its members in any way.
Quebec does not use the FPRC Credential Assessment Process. For registration in Quebec, please contact
OIFQ directly.
